The Big Game Advertising Predictions
Its one of my favorite days of the year! While many look forward to the two best football teams facing off in The Big Game and the half time show, I can't wait to soak up the advertisements (and of course too much spinach dip).
I not only mentally pick apart each one, I visualize the process of coming up with something that can be so memorable. From the brand's marketing team sharing the direction to their in house creative department or outside agency (which is the more probable avenue), reviewing the concepts, the collaboration, the presentation and the final product approval. Its a magical process that requires skill, endurance and creative muscle.
This year is going to be different. Some big names opted not to run a $5 million dollar spot, and in place will donate to Covid-19 relief. Budweiser, Coca-Cola and Pepsi are forgoing ads. Some also said spending so much on ad spend when the last year has been trying to their bottom line, seemed like a bad play.
While I'll miss the Clydesdale commercials immensely, I absolutely love this move on Budweiser’s part. Plus they received a ton of great press for weeks now.
Some things you'll also see: Many brands will acknowledge the state of our world while providing a way to utilize what we have learned this last year and turn it into something else. I’m looking forward to Squarespace’s spot along DIY brands like Scott’s Miracle-Gro and home improvement stores.
Others I can’t wait to see: Amazon Alexa, Uber Eats, Indeed, Sam Adams, Bud Lite Lemonade and Robinhood.
